How it Works and other Questions......

What are the benefits of distance learning?

With distance learning you can learn wherever and whenever you want. You can fit your study  around your other commitments and we'll support you every step of the way.

As you progress through your distance learning course, you'll find your ability and confidence growing all the time.

How does distance learning work at Wolsey Hall?

As soon as you enrol for a course, we despatch your core study material.  These are the best available published texts, and the most friendly available learning material available.  In most cases the texts are endorsed by the relevant examining body.

As soon as your texts reach you, you'll have access to your own password protected area on our learning management system, called WHOLE (Wolsey Hall Online Learning Environment) so that you can begin work right away.

What is WHOLE and how will it help me?

Our online learning environment (WHOLE) contains all of your course resources and is accessible in just a click or two.  Among the resources you'll find are:

•   Your Guide to Successful Study which is packed with suggestions on to how to get the most out of your course,

•   The Examination Syllabus

•   Profiles of each of your Tutors

•   Your Programme of Study, showing you exactly what you need to cover before each assignment.

•   Your Study Schedule showing you exactly when each assignment is due.  This is flexible, and can be altered depending on your specific requirements. But we will keep track as to how you're progressing relative to the schedule.  In the event that you fall behind, we'll be in touch to see if we can help or, if necessary, alter the schedule.

•  Your Assignments.  You submit these to your tutor online via WHOLE and you'll receive them back within 5 working days.

•   A number of relevant web links which will enrich and enhance your core text.

Who will be supporting me during my course?

You'll have two key supports during your course:

A.  Your Tutor, who will call you via Skype to introduce themselves within a few days of your enrolment, and who will assess and grade all of your assignments.  He or she will be readily available by email, and you can also make an appointment to talk via Skype at a mutually convenient time if you have an academic problem that you can't resolve on your own.

B.  Your Course Manager who will be your key link with the college, and who will deal with any admin issues, such as changing your schedule, exam centres or anything else on which you need advice or help.

Where do I take my exams?

You must make your own arrangements to take your exams.  We regret that we can't do this for you.  But there's no problem about it.  In the UK the Cambridge and Edexcel exam boards have centres throughout the country.  Outside the UK, the British Council will usually be your exam centre of choice.  Or there may be a nearby International School which will be an alternative.

Your Course Manager will be able to help you if you have any difficulty here.

How long will a course take me?

That depends on your prior knowledge and how quickly you learn. But we estimate, on average, up to 150 hrs for an IGCSE subject and 500 hours for an A-Level subject (250 hrs for AS and 250 hrs for A2).

How soon will I be able to start?

You'll be able to start your distance learning course as soon as your application form is completed and you have made your first payment.

Can I study from outside the UK?

You can study Wolsey Hall distance learning courses from outside the UK as easily as if you were a UK resident. Usually you can sit your exam at your local British Council, but we suggest you contact the British Council before you begin your course to make certain.

What qualifications will I receive at the end of my course?

On successful completion of your home study course you'll receive a qualification from the awarding body for your qualification (e.g. from Cambridge International Examinations or Edexcel)  Each course page shows exactly what qualification you'll receive at the end of the course.
