How distance learning works
Starting to Study
Your study texts and online learning resources available within WHOLE (Wolsey Hall Online Learning Environment) will contain everything you need to start studying by distance learning. Each of our distance learning courses has been written to a specific syllabus, so you can be confident that you will learn everything you need to achieve a high grade in your examination.
WHOLE
WHOLE stands for the Wolsey Hall Online Learning Environment. All our distance learning courses are offered through a carefully balanced mix of study texts and online learning resources which our tutors keep constantly updated. WHOLE will allow you to:
- submit your tutor-marked assignments to your tutor and receive fast and efficient feedback - usually within five working days. No postal service to slow down the process like old fashioned correspondence colleges! We believe in keeping your motivation levels high and that rapid feedback on your assignments is one of the best ways of doing this. We monitor the turn-round times of all our tutors to ensure that you get the best possible service.
- access your learning resources from anywhere in the world with a connection to the internet.
- keep a Learning Diary of your progress which will allow you and your tutor to focus on any areas of particular concern. We want you to enjoy your studies with us and to remain motivated and we think the Learning Diary is a great way to do this.
Your Tutor
Your tutor is your personal learning coach. He or she will be available throughout your distance learning course to give you help with specific issues, and talk you through difficult topics. He or she will also provide you with detailed feedback on your distance learning assignments. Your tutor will keep in touch with you on a regular basis throughout your distance learning course to check on your progress and give you encouragement and advice.
All our distance learning and home study courses include Tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) at various points and it's important that you complete these in line with your agreed Study Schedule which we will agree with you at the start of your course. TMA's help you and your tutor gauge your progress as you work through the course and they also help you to build your confidence in your ability to master your subject. When you have completed your assignment, you send it to your tutor via WHOLE for grading and detailed feedback.
Your Student Adviser
Your Student Adviser is there to ensure that your distance learning course runs smoothly and to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Our Student Advisers have many years' experience of the needs of distance learning students, and we're sure you'll find them friendly and helpful. Your Student Adviser is available during office hours to answer any queries about the course you might have.

What our students say
With help from my ever-ready tutor and the friendly staff at Wolsey Hall, I received an A* for IGCSE English this summer (2011)
I would definitely recommend studying with them!
